AIS Celebrates American Indian Day
Students Celebrate American Indian Day
On Friday, September 28th, Harding’s AIS students attended the Saint Paul American Indian Day celebration at Mounds Park. This celebration is an annual event hosted by the American Indian Family Center, with participation from community partners— Indian Education, the Am. Indian Magnet School, Ain Dah Yung, and others.
The parade began at 3rd & Earl Street, at the Am. Indian Magnet school, and followed Earl down to the park. The AIS Ojibwe class designed the theme for our Harding students, deciding to represent the 7 clans of the Ojibwe. The signs were a success— our students walked away with the “Cuteness” Award! Ho-wah!
At the park our program participated in the feast, having brought wild rice hotdish and mashed potatoes to go with the chicken and fry bread and punch! Lunch was followed by a drum and dance performance, with guest speakers marking the event.
