Harding Senior High School
 Tardy and Attendance Policy

Tardies to School and Class Policy

Harding Senior High School believes: regular school attendance relates directly to success in academic work, benefits students socially, provides opportunities for important communication between teachers and students, and establishes regular habits of dependability important to the future of the student. The purpose of this policy is to encourage regular school attendance.

This policy also recognizes that class attendance is a joint responsibility to be shared by the student, parent or guardian, teacher, and administration. This policy will assist students in attending class. The school district expects students to achieve a 95% attendance rate, meaning a student is not absent more than 9 days total in a school year or its equivalent in class periods.

Definition: A student is tardy when he or she is not in class and seated for the first period of the school day (at 7:30 a.m.)  or in the classroom and seated at the beginning of each class period.

Detention: A 30 minute detention to take place after school on Tuesdays or Thursdays.

** IMPORTANT NOTE:

If a student is tardy to his/her First Period class and does not have a pass from the front desk, he/she is considered tardy to class and is assigned a detention from his/her teacher. If the student is tardy and has a pass from the front door, detention was assigned at the front door.

Tardies for “Detention Procedures” for students without a tardy slip:

                1) Tardy-for-Detention list will be placed in the classroom for students to sign                       when they are tardy.

                2) List is turned in by the teacher at the end of the day to the Main Office.

                3) Students who are late for detention have the option of  completing  the

detention on the next two  detention days – Tuesday or Thursday.

                4) Students who are tardy for at least one period must serve an after-school

detention when detention is next served (if, for example, the student is tardy on

Monday, he or she must serve the detention on Tuesday.)

                5) School-Wide tardies list will be posted in the atrium and e-mailed staff wide on

a daily basis, tardies to school will also be posted.

                6) (A) If student does not attend the agreed upon detention day, they will be

dismissed at the end of the day and parent meeting will be required to readmit
