ACT and SAT Testing Dates  

Juniors, now is the time to take the ACT or SAT if you are planning to apply to four-year colleges.  Seniors – it’s not too late to test in February!

The Winter/Spring schedule is as follows:

Toyota Community Scholars Scholarship – 100 renewable four-year scholarships nation-wide based on academics, leadership and community service.  One student from Harding may be nominated for this award.  Applications available in 1382.  Deadline:  January 4.

 

Gates Millennium Scholars Scholarship – open to students of color with a 3.3 or higher GPA unweighted, leadership, community service and extra-curricular activities, meets the Federal Pell Grant eligibility criteria and is nominated by a teacher/counselor, coach, advisor or another non-relative adult.  Deadline:  December 31 – paper application; January 11 – online application.  GMS website:  www.gmsp.org

For Juniors – Discover Scholarship Program – (Formerly Discover Card Tribute Award) up to ten $30,000 scholarships based on 2.75 unweighted GPA, demonstrated community service, leadership and “has faced a significant roadblock or challenge”.  Apply online at http://www.discoverfinancial.com/community/scholarship.shtml or applications available in 1382.  Deadline:  January 31.

 

The 2008 Sam Walton Community Scholarship, awards of $1,000 to graduating seniors not employed by WalMart or Sam’s Club.  Apply online at www.walmartfoundation.org  Deadline:  January 14.

Minnesota State University-Mankato New Entering Freshman Scholarship Application – for Presidential Scholar, Maverick, Graham Chemistry and Meredith Scholar awards; based on class rank, ACT score and responses to scholarship application.  Deadline:  January 15.

 

Union Plus Scholarship Program – for union members, spouses, and DEPENDENTS of union members. Based on academics, character, leadership, social awareness, career goals and financial need.  A GPA of 3.0 or higher is recommended.  Essay regarding career goals, aspirations, community service, relationship with the union & labor movement & how it has personally affected your life. www.unionplus.org/education  Jan. 31.

 

Minnesota Family Involvement Council Scholarship Program – for students pursuing postsecondary education in 2008-09 who are members of a credit union with headquarters in MN.  Two $1,000 and thirteen $500 scholarships will be awarded.  Applications are available in 1382 or online at www.mnfic.org/scholarships.html  Deadline:  February 1.

 

The Hispanic College Fund High School Scholarship Program for Hispanic Americans who are a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident with a 3.0 unweighted GPA.  Visit www.hsf.net and click “Scholarships” and then click “Scholarships for Graduating High School Seniors”. March 15.

 

Ron Brown Scholar Program For African-American seniors only with academic achievement, leadership ability, community service, & financial need. 10 $10,000. www.ronbrown.org  Deadline: January 9, 2007

 

Entrepreneurial Scholarship – Seniors, if you own & operate a business you may apply for this $40,000 scholarship. www.mckelveyfoundation.org  Deadline:  January 15.

 

Simon Youth Foundation Community Scholarship Selection criteria: enroll full-time Fall of 2008, financial need, academic record, demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities, honors, work experience, statement of goals and aspirations, and an outside appraisal.  Unusual personal or family circumstances will also be considered. Southwest Minnesota State University-Marshall Access and Opportunity Scholarship-open to seniors from Minneapolis & St. Paul Public High schools, with 3.0 or better GPA, minimum ACT – 22 and eligible for federal financial aid.  Maximum award $6,000/year for four years for tuition, fees, room/board iand books.  Deadline:  February 1.

 

PFund Scholarships – $2,000 - $5,000 awards available for Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual or Transgender (GLBT) students OR students from a GLBT family.  Application and information at www.PFundOnline.org  Deadline: February 1, 2008.

 

NFIB Young Entrepreneur Award – 400 $1,000 merit-based scholarships awarded to students who demonstrate entrepreneurial spirit by starting their own business, or participate in DECA, Junior Achievement, Future Business Leaders of America, Future Farmers of America, National Foundation of Entrepreneurship or other initiatives.  Apply online at: www.goonline.cc The Access key=NFIB.  Deadline:  February 11.

 

Coss Family Foundation Scholarship Fund - $500 to $3500 renewable awards based on financial need, academic record, demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities, work experience, unusual personal or family circumstances, a personal statement, and letters of recommendation. Other Criteria: must be a senior who is graduating from a public or private high school in either Ramsey or Dakota county, planning to enroll at least half-time (6 credits) at any 2-year or 4-year college.  www.sms.scholarshipamerica.org/cossfamily Due: Feb. 15.

 

AXA Achievement Community Scholarship – twelve $2,000 scholarships awarded to students in MN based on: ambition and drive, determination to set and reach goals, respect for self, family and community and ability to succeed in college.  To apply go to: www.axa-achievement.com Deadline:  February 15.

 

Burger King Scholars Program – Up to 700 $1,000 scholarships available; requires part-time employment of 15 hrs/week, 40 weeks/year; 2.5 or higher GPA, community service, financial need and plans to enroll in a two or four-year college, university or vocational/technical school in the Fall of 2008.  Go to www.bk.com/scholars Deadline:  February 15.

 

KFC Colonel’s Scholars program - up to $5,000 per year for tuition, fees, textbooks, room and board. MUST ENROLL IN A MINNESOTA PUBLIC college or university pursuing a 4 YEAR DEGREE, financial need, minimum GPA of 2.75.  Visit www.kfcscholars.org Deadline: February 15.

 

National Co-op Scholarship Program – 185 merit-based $6,000 renewable scholarships awarded to students who apply and are accepted to one of the following schools for the cooperative education program and apply for the scholarship:  Drexel U, Johnson & Wales U, Kettering U, C.W. Post Campus of Long Island U, Northeastern U, Pace U, Rochester Institute of Technology, U of Cincinnati, U of Toledo and Wentworth Institute of Technology.  Apply for the scholarship online at:  www.co-op.edu  Deadline:  February 15.

College of Visual Artsmerit-based scholarships for students with a 3.0 or higher GPA pursuing careers in Art.  Must apply to CVA and be accepted by March 1.   Submit 10 examples of your best work and a letter of recommendation from your Art Teacher.  Deadline:  March 1.

 

MnACC Student of Color Scholarship – At least 10 $500 scholarships awarded to MN high school graduates, US citizen or Permanent Resident of ethnic minority descent, planning to attend a two-year or four-year MnACC member postsecondary school in 2008-09.  To apply online:  go to www.mnacc.org   or applications available in 1382.  Deadline:  March 31

 

Minnesota Women’s Golf Association Foundation Scholarship – $2,000 per year. Dunwoody Outstanding Student Award – Scholarships from $1,000-$3,000 for students pursuing careers in industry and technology at Dunwoody

TFCU Foundation Scholarships – 8 - $1,000 scholarships – 4 awarded to seniors from St. Paul public and alternative high schools.  Based on passing the Minnesota BST’s, 2.5 GPA, financial need and postsecondary plans for Fall 2008.  Deadline:  April 15.

 

Olga B. Hart Education Foundation Scholarship – 7 scholarships ranging from $2,000-$3,000 to graduating seniors who plan to major in education.  Requires an essay on why you believe education is important and why you want to become an educator.  Deadline:  April 18. 

 

Minnesota Clean Air Choice Scholarship – one $500 and one $250 scholarships awarded based on a personal essay on the topic of biodiesel fuel.  Go to www.CleanAirChoice.org for application and information.  Deadline:  April 30.

 

Affinity Plus Foundation Scholarship for Affinity Plus Federal Credit Union members or future members - Four $5000 scholarships for incoming freshmen, college upperclassmen, and non-traditional students. Summer Opportunities

Juniors – Ever thought about attending the U. S. Air Force Academy?  Summer Seminar offers two one-week seminars at the Academy held each June.  Eligibility based on academics – 3.0 GPA, test results – PSAT, PLAN, ACT or SAT, good physical condition and extra-curricular and leadership activities.  Apply on-line at www.academyadmissions.com  Deadline:  March 1.

 

Concordia Language Villages – Arabic, Danish, Japanese, Korean, Italian, Swedish, Finnish, Chinese, German, French, Spanish, Norwegian, Portuguese, Russian, as well as English. 1 week, 2 week, and for high school credit 4 week camps.  GREAT experience!

COMPAS ArtsWork – Paid Summer Apprenticeships June 23 – August 1, 2008.  For ages 14-21 who demonstrate talent and skill in their artistic disciplines (Ceramics, Painting, Writing, Photography, Music, Stained Glass, Puppetry, Theatre, Mosaic, Drawing, Jewelry, Mask Making, Mural Painting, Sculpture, etc.).  Be part of an arts-based youth employment and training program for 6 weeks. 80 jobs available. Get mentoring!

Earn $6 - $8 per hour! Develop job skills. Learn how to work with others. Produce artwork for the Retail Store. www.compas.org Due: March 7.

 

Summer in New York City – live and learn at Barnard College, in partnership with Columbia University. For current 10th and 11th graders.

The Modesta Reichert Gamble First Step Summer Institute – for 10th and 11th grade young women of color.  June 16-21 or July 7-12.
